After Chicago we left for Detroit. We were going to head somewhere else but an unnamed person booked a show, did nothing, and aviodes all call. Hense a day off when not needed. Needless to say, we have no interest in ever speaking to them again. In Detroit we went to Brooks Grandparents. They have 6 cats and 5 dogs. They fed us but we didn't sleep very well. Pretty much a waisted day.
The second detroit day we played at the Trumbullplex. It is a 1880s house that has this crazy side venue that was some how built into it. It is an amzing space. A lot of our friends have played before. A punk collective runs the place. One of the girls from the collective runs a vegetable oil car. It was the first time I have ever seen filled with oil before. I would love to make one at some point in my life.
We were fed a great meal. The show started late and it was a blast. We played with Screaming Gyn Gyn and The Pons from Madison Wisconsin. They were quite a show. They had costumes and ambiguos members. I want to go to the cheese state and do another show with them.
Today we got up early and drove to Kalamazoo for a radio interview at WIDR at noon. Mike talked about how the guitar bomb was banned from the station. Brook told stories about tacos. Its always about food with him. The interview and songs went well. We need to do more of those. Tonight we play The Kraft Brau. We always do real well there but for some reason the setup never gets easier. They always make us dance for them.

Like all Detroiters we look out for one another

So we're in Detroit.  I hate dAN and Mikey.  dAN wanted Mikey to write in the tour journal, and Mikey whined like a little punk-ass, saying it felt like homework.  He didn't want to feel pressured into writing stuff when he wasn't in the mood.  So Mikey handed the computer off to me, and dAN told me I had to write in the journal before I checked my email.
We were in LaGrange, IL last night, playing with our new buddies, Woody and Redbear and Nice and Friendly.  We stayed at Redbear's house, and even though he had to get up for school this morning, he stayed up with us and showed us a bunch of zombie movies.  More and more I'm liking house shows better, just cause there's kids to talk to, and not some drunk fucker going, "DUUUUUUDE!  No offense, man, but did anyone ever tell you you sound like Paul Simon?"  And then he pukes on your shoe.  Kids are cool, because they actually listen.  I heard some kid go, "Dude, I feel old, cause I'm turning 22 next month."  And then he asked me how old I am, and I said, "Ummm...Twenty...something."
I should mention the kid in Chicago we didn't know, and will probably never see again, and dAN approached him for a place to stay, because he used to be in a touring band.  He put us up, with couches (I got a real live BED!) and shower for all.  And to think of all the friends we talked to, people who we've known for years, who either didn't return our calls or couldn't help...
I used to get psychosomatic hives when I lived in Michigan, especially when I had to come to Detroit.  I was so nervous when I was driving into town, that I had to pull over and get sick twice.  I'm tired.  I hate dAN and Mikey.  Good night.

Thank you Chicago

From Buddy Holly Texas we went to Amarillo TX. I have been trying to book amarillo for several tours. I finally found a guy named Drew Blood. He did not set up the show but he sent me to someone who did. The show was at this venue called the pod. Everyone who ran the space was real helpful except for the kid who booked the show. He managed to tell no one about the show. Later in the night, he got drunk, threw a computer and punched a wall. Then I got him to buy a cd.
The 8 kids who showed up danced in front and had fun. We ended up moving a bunch of shirts and cds. We slept in the club with a cat and a kitten. I woke up with the kitten on my lap. I feel that he next time around the pod should be good.
From amarillo we went to Oklahoma City to the Book and Beat Company run by this big guy named shilo. He is real supportive of the cause. It is this large book store with a show space in the back. We were booked with toxic goddess. They are in the realm of suicide girls. there were four scanttily clad models walking around while mike and brook played. The hard part was that there were nude photos of these women on the walls for sale. They turned out to be a lot of fun and we spent the evening with them at the after party. This house had a cat in heat making a bunch of noise.
The next day we drove 12 hours to chicago. we hadno show but hoped to arive and find a place to stay. We met this guy named kevin who took us in and gave us couches. He is amazing. I am going to bed...dAN

who feels me?

buddy holly! if you havent heard of him find out where he is from and how he impacted my home town. he is the reason i got the chance to meet these good old yankess ! think of....early early 1960's when folk music was becoming popular and the next generation begins to take control of the counrty! There are not too many ways to descride the show other than the way it brought prosperity to my town. the time spent listing to their music could not compete with anything else that could have happend in my reality. this night was the true experience of what music stands for in my counrty. bringing people together. thanks so much for oppertunity. - K.Dobbs

El Paso to Amarillo

I'm a total liar.  I'm actually in Lubbock, but we had a great experience tonight, so, forget about honesty, and talk about what happened.  We pulled into Bombardier's in El Paso, and I asked for a Lone Star (the National Beer of Texas).  The bartender said, "Nope.  We're not like those OTHER Texas bars."  I still don't know what he meant, but we actually made money that night, so I guess he was right.  We stayed in a hotel, and dAN didn't have a heart attack.  He said to me, "Come on, we gotta go to the hotel."  I said, "Did somebody die?"  He said, "No, it's cool."  I figured Ed McMahon was gonna pop out and gimme a check.  Tonight, I sang "The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton."  And people loved me for loving The Moutain Goats.  We never thought Lubbock would be cool, but we never think anyone is cool.  I'm a total liar.

I'm Baaaaaaaaack...

Its 7:47 AM in Albuquerque NM. I am at the Blue Dragon in New Mexico. We slept here last night. This is one of our new home basses as we like to c all them. Brook and Mikey are still sleeping in the other room. I am hoping that someone goes in there to drink coffee and stirs them awake. I picked the booth to sleep in because I thought it looked like fun. I was wrong. Let me catch you up on the last two days.
Tuesday night we played in El Paso TX. We tried to avoid Texas this tour but somehow booked four shows there. Texas is big. We played at a place called the bombadier. It has old papers on the wall from the forties about wars. It is obviosly a night club that has bands on occasion. It is kind of run down, so it is a place that Mikey feels comfortable. The bartender was a guy named Fish. He was a nice guy who actually seemed into our music. The rest of the crowd was disinterested but not rude. We played with another local band who brought no one. I forgot their name. They sounds like modern rock. Every one left the bar when they played. Fish was not very happy. The singer hugged me before they left. This did not make me very happy. For some reason every one in El Paso either moved or is a for . bout to move. Therefore they have a lot of boxes and we would not fit on their floor. While the three of us are rather large, i assume we probably would have found room betwween the boxes. A women told us she managed a motel and could get a room 25 bucks. While every bone in my body is against this, we took her up on the offer. The gig payed for our motel room and our oil change in Truth or Consequences NM. The only thing in the town is car stations and junk shops.
The drive through NM is pretty amazing. There are a ton of winding roads through vast open streches of land. The open area is surrounded mountains in the distance. Random shrubs and cacti grow through out the dusty fields. I could drive forever if all roads were like this.
Last night we played at the blue dragon in NM. It is officially one of my favorite places to play. It is a coffee shop run by this guy Norm. He looks and feels like he should have played in Mission of Burma. I don't really know what to say about him other than he knows whats up. He plays solo with a bass and vocals. He makes all these amazing sounds with his mouth. It is kind of like he plays the digeridoo minus the instrument. Both times we have played here he has bought a ton of merch from us. He understands what it is like to tour.
We were the headlining acts for an open mic. Mikey needed a littl eextra in his drink in order to mkae it through everyones set. The was this Nu-metal "band" that played. It was pretty amazing. There was also a girl who yelled and played acordian. Brook and Mikey played song for song. It is actually a real nice way to see them. It also ensures that people watch both of them. A good number of people stuck arpund. We hung out with these two kids who just moved from portland after the show.  Today we are off to Lubbock Texas...dAN

A Night at the Roman

This evening was an enjoyable one. First My friend and I ended up at the Roman because there was a band there. We did not know what  or who was playing. I walked into the  door and there was Guitar Bob (Mike) with his fantastic star shades and fantastic music. What a surprise to see this group out of Brooklyn. It is not too often that Kearney is graced by those that journey to the Midwest (Kearney) to play good music, but I am thankful. After Mike played Brook played his guitar and sang his lyrics. The night ended with a duo with Brook and Mike. I didn't want to leave but I am sure thart the owner may have objected - Great night. Good times. Peace.
